Donmoos, he'll be in Sandstone in early October, two performances on a Sunday afternoon and evening. I haven't been to a Gene Watson event in over 25 years and I'm really excited for the 26th to come! There are so many good clips on You Tube of Gene over the years.

The last Doc and Merle Watson concert was at the Great Southeast Music Hall in Atlanta. The next day, if I remember right, Merle had the accident with his tractor. A friend of mine and I were at that last show. Sad.

Thrity Pieces of Silver Sung By: Hank Williams www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_I87e7wslkThirty Pieces of Silver Tis a sad but true story From the Bible it came And it tells us how Judas Sold the Savior in shame He planned with the council Of high priest that day 30 pieces of silver Was the price they would pay 30 pieces of silver 30 sheckles of shame Was the price paid for Jesus On the cross he was slain Betrayed and forsaken Unloved and unclaimed In anger they pierced him But he died not in VAIN Twas on there on the hillside The multitude came And found our dear Savior Then took him away They bruised Him and mocked Him Thorns were crowned around his head And his garment of purple Showed the blood stains of red Far off in the mountains with his face towards the sun Judas begged mercy for what he had done He gave back the silver For his heart filled with strife Then there in the mountain he took his own life 30 pieces of silver 30 sheckles of shame Was the price paid for Jesus On the cross he was slain

Fraulein By: Bobby Helms Far across deep blue waters, lives an old German's daughter By the banks of the old river Rhine Where I loved her and left her, but I can't forget her I miss my pretty Fraulein. FrauIein, Fraulein, look up toward the Heaven Each night when the stars start to shine By the same stars above you, I swear that I love you You are my pretty fraulein. When my memories wander, away over yonder To the sweetheart that I left behind In a moment of glory, a face comes before me The face of my pretty fraulein. Fraulein, Fraulein, walk down by the river Pretend that your hand's holdin' mine By the same stars above you, I swear that I love you You are my pretty fraulein. Incase the youtube link didnt work, here it is in click and pop up form. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHNtpkeXPJ8

This is a song that my aunt and grandpa used to sing everytime my aunt came over and they would play music. I always loved it because it also spoke the truth about praying
Somebody Touched The Lord By: Perfect Heart
MY SOUL WAS SICK AND DYING, BOUND IN SIN AND SHAME, SOMEBODY CALLED UPON THE LORD, 'TIL SWEET REDEEMPTION CAME SOMEBODY HELD ME UP TO GOD, WHEN I WAS FEELING DOWN, AND I'M SO GLAD THAT SOMEBODY PRAYED SO I CAN SING IT NOW.
CHORUS:
SOMEBODY GOT ANOTHER PRAYER THROUGH, SOMEBODY TOUCHED THE LORD SOMEBODY JUST TOUCHED HEAVEN FOR ANOTHER NEED ONCE MORE SOMEBODY PRAYED 'TIL THE SPIRIT CAME, SOMEBODY CALLED ON JESUS NAME SOMEBODY KNOCKED ON HEAVEN'S DOOR, SOMEBODY TOUCHED THE LORD
WHEN I NEEDED HEALING, I FELT TOO LOW TO PRAY, SOMEBODY INTERCEDED AND SOON THE HEALING CAME. NOW HELP ME LORD TO PRAY FOR THOSE WHO STAND IN NEED OF PRAYER AND LET IT BE SAID JUST ONCE MORE, SOMEBODY TOUCHED THE LORD
REPEAT CHORUS TWICE
SOMEBODY KNOCKED ON HEAVEN'S DOOR, SOMEBODY TOUCHED THE LORD

This might be a little outside of the normal genre for us, but it is a fun old song by Tom T. Hall that you might enjoy: In some of my songs i have casually mentioned The fact that i like to drink beer This little song is more to the point Roll out the barrel and lend me your ears (Chorus:) I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow) Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear This little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact i like beer (he likes beer) My wife often frowns when we're out on the town And i'm wearing a suit and a tie She's sipping vermouth and she thinks i'm uncouth When i yell as the waiter goes by (Chorus) Last night i dreamed that i passed from the scene And i went to a place so sublime Aw, the water was clear and tasted like beer Then they turned it all into wine I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow) Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much, and vodka puts my mouth in gear Aw, this little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact i love beer (yes, he likes beer) www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/tom-t-hall-i-like-beer/8869aa60d336722c85608869aa60d336722c8560-561604133904?q=Tom+T.+Hall+I+Like+Beer+youtube&FORM=VIRE1

Well, since you introduced Tom T. Hall and now this new subject, how about a little Johnny Russell and a related theme?

Now that was a time when country music was country music. Good song. That was right up there with Okie From Muskogee. There were some great story tellers back then. Tom T., Jerry Reed, and Roger Miller, among others.

This clip is from the Porter Wagoner show and the singer is none other than "Snowman" Jerry Reed himself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCE48O6U4YwSong: Wabash Cannonball From the great Atlantic ocean to the wide Pacific shore From the green New Hampshire mountains to the southland's cajun lore She's mighty tall and handsome And loved by one and all She's the combination Called the Wabash Cannonball Chorus: Oh listen to the jingle The rumble and the roar As she glides along the woodlands Through the hills and by the shore Hear the mighty rush of her engine Hear that lonesome hobo's call We're travelling through the jungles On the Wabash Cannonball Your eastern states are dandies So the people always say From New York to St. Louis And Chicago by the way Through the hills of Minnesota Where the rippling waters fall No changes can be taken On the Wabash Cannonball Chorus Here's to Daddy Klaxton May his name forever stand And alwyas be remembered Through the courts of Alabam' His earthly race is over The curtains 'round him fall We'll carry him on to Glory On the Wabash Cannonball Chorus She pulled in to the station one cold December day As she rolled up to the platform you could hear all the people say There's a gal from Tennessee; she's long and she's tall She came down from Birmingham on the Wabash Cannonball ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Song: Hallelujah I love her so (1 verse) Let me tell you 'bout a girl I know She is my baby and she lives next door Every mornin' 'fore the sun comes up She brings me coffee in my favorite cup

I was watching a Bill Gaither show on INSP with my Grandma a week ago and heard this song by The Statler Brothers. Tennessee Ernie Ford was the first to sing it, but I like the Statler's version a little better.
Noah Found Grace In The Eyes Of The Lord By: The Statler Brothers (The one who hits the long note at the end is Statler Brothers tenor Jimmy Fortune.)
Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord That is the reason the Scriptures record Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord
Well the Lord looked down from gis window in the sky And said I created man but I don't remember why Nothin' but fightin' since creation day I'll send a little water and I'll wash'em all away
So the Lord came down to look around a spell And there he found Noah behavin' mighty well And that is the reason the Scriptures record Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord
Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord...
The Lord said Noah there's gonna be a flood And there's gonna be some water and there's gonna be some mud Take off your hat Noah and take off your coat Get a handshave and shave that and build yourself a boat
Noah said Lord I don't believe I could The Lord said Noah get some sturdy gopher wood Ya never know what you can do till you try Build it fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high
Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord...
Now Noah said there it is there it is Lord The Lord said Noah it's time to get aboard Now take a creature a he and a she And of course Mrs Noah and the whole family
Noah said Lord it's gettin' mighty dark The Lord said Noah get these creatures in the ark Noah said Lord it's beginnin' to pour The Lord said Noah hurry up and shut the door
Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord...
Well the ark rose up on the foot of the deep And after forty days Mr Noah took a peek said We ain't movin' Lord where are we at The Lord said you're sittin' on a mount Ararat
Noah said Lord it's gettin' mighty dry The Lord said Noah see My rainbow in the sky Take all the creatures and people to earth And don't be more trouble than you're worth
Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord And he landed high and dry and he landed high and dry And he landed high and dry

That performance is from the farewell show for The Cathedral Quartet. The man with his mouth hanging open during Jimmy Fortune's high note is Ernie Haase, who was the last tenor for the Cathedrals. He is sitting next to George Younce, who was, in my humble opinion, the smoothest bass singer in gospel music. That was a great performance by the Statlers. I miss them.
