This is the song that my grandpa (who introduced me to country music) taught me to play first on the guitar, it's a Lefty song that'll give you the chilliest of chills. Long Black Veil By: Lefty Frizzell Ten years ago on a cold dark night There was someone killed 'neath the town hall light There were few at the scene, but they all agree That the slayer who ran looked a lot like me. The judge said son what is your alibi If you were somewhere else then you won't have to die I spoke not a word though it meant my life For I had been in the arms of my best friend's wife. She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows but me. The scaffold's high and eternity near She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear But sometimes at night when the cold wind blows In a long black veil she cries o'er my bones. She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave when the night winds wail Nobody knows, nobody sees Nobody knows but me. Nobody knows but me. Nobody knows but me... www.youtube.com/watch?v=50k18gL76AU

I remember that song well and also learned to play it. Seems we have a few pickers, and singers here on the forum!

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining, It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining, 'Til He appear'd and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! O hear the angels' voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born; O night divine, O night, O night Divine. Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming, With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming, Here come the wise men from Orient land. The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger; In all our trials born to be our friend. He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger, Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend! Behold your King, Before Him lowly bend! Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother; And in His name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, Let all within us praise His holy name. Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever, His power and glory evermore proclaim. His power and glory evermore proclaim

One of my favorite Christmas songs. . . . Wow. It leaves me in awe even to think of it and read the words. I can't read the words to this without hearing the pitches for each note inside my head.

That song is included in the Barbershop Christmas songbook. I have sung it many times in many places. The residents at the nursing homes are always so grateful when we sing there. Patients who don't even know who they are or where they are will suddenly begin to sing along when they hear the old standards. It can bring a tear to your eye.

This song I played for my grandpa and grandma to brighten their spirits while they weren't feeling the best in the world, and my grandparents enjoyed it alot. Honky Tonk Man By: Johnny Horton I'm a honky tonk man and I can't seem to stop I love to give the girls a whirl to the music of an old jukebox But when my money's all gone I'm on the telephone Hollerin’ Hey Hey Mama can your daddy come home I'm living fast and a dangerously but I've got plenty of company When the moon comes up and the sun goes down That's when I want to see the lights uptown Cause I'm a honky tonk man and I can't seem to stop I love to give the girls a whirl to the music of an old jukebox But when my money's all gone I'm on the telephone Hollerin’ Hey Hey Mama can your daddy come home (GUITAR) Cause I'm a honky tonk man and I can't seem to stop I love to give the girls a whirl to the music of an old jukebox But when my money's all gone I'm on the telephone Hollerin’ Hey Hey Mama can your daddy come home It takes a purty little gal and a jug of wine That's what it takes to make a honky tonk mind With the jukebox a moanin' a honky tonk sound That's when I wanna lay my money down Cause I'm a honky tonk man... www.youtube.com/watch?v=lydLUrEIR_I

This Dwight Yoakam song always makes me want me to get up and dance Guitars, Cadillacs By: Dwight Yoakam Girl, you taught me how to hurt real bad And cry myself to sleep And showed me how this town can shatter dreams Another lesson 'bout a naive fool Who came to Babylon And found out that the pie Don't taste so sweet Now it's guitars, cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yea, my guitars, cadillacs, hillbilly music It's the only thing that keep me hangin' on Ain't no glamour in this tinsle land Of lost and wasted lives Painful scars are all that's left of me I wanna thank-you girl for teachin' me Brand new ways to be cruel Like findin' mine now I guess I'll just leave And it's guitars, cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yea, my guitars, cadillacs, hillbilly music It's the only thing that keep me hangin' on Oh it's guitars, cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yea, my guitars, cadillacs, hillbilly music It's The only thing that keep me hangin' on It's the only thing that keep me hangin' on It's the only thing that keep me hangin' on www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DkcQ09h2Vo

He said I'll love you 'til I die She told him you'll forget in time As the years went slowly by She still preyed upon his mind He kept her picture on his wall Went half crazy now and then He still loved her through it all Hoping she'd come back again Kept some letters by his bed Dated 1962 He had underlined in red Every single I love you I went to see him just today Oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away First time I'd seen him smile in years (Chorus) He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today (Spoken) You know she came to see him one last time Oh and we all wondered if she would And it kept running through my mind This time he's over her for good (Repeat Chorus) www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R2F9f2Cl6Y

He Stopped Loving Her is one of the alltime favorite sad songs ever done. Incredible. Even after all these years it can still drag a tear out of the most hardened of people.

Mugley said it...there is ALWAYS another song out there.
This is from a different era perhaps...but it has lyrics that touch me. And I love playing and singing it for MY special woman. Often don't make it through without a tear in my eye.
Guys and gals, if you are lucky enough to have that special "someone" that amazes you every time you turn around, I think you'll like this.
Lonestar's "Amazed"
Everytime our eyes meet, this feeling inside me Is almost more than I can take Baby when you touch me, I can feel how much you love me And it just blows me away I've never been this close to anyone or anything I can hear your thoughts, I can see your dreams...
I don't know how you do what you do I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side Forever and ever Every little thing that you do Baby I'm amazed by you.
The smell of your skin, the taste of your kiss The way you whisper in the dark Your hair all around me, baby you surround me You touch every place in my heart Oh, it feels like the first time everytime I wanna spend the whole night in your eyes...
I don't know how you do what you do I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side Forever and ever Every little thing that you do Baby I'm amazed by you.
Every little thing that you do I'm so in love with you, it just keeps getting better I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side Forever and ever Every little thing that you do Every little thing that you do Baby I'm amazed by you.

I found a great new song and since it's the holidays, it fits perfect for the season. It's by one of my favorites of all time, Bobby Helms. Jingle Bell Rock By: Bobby Helms Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring Snowin' and blowin' up bushels of fun Now the jingle hop has begun Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time Dancin' and prancin' in Jingle Bell Square In the frosty air What a bright time, it's the right time To rock the night away Jingle bell time is a swell time To go glidin' in a one-horse sleigh Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet Jingle around the clock Mix and a-mingle in the jinglin' feet That's the jingle bell rock Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time Dancin' and prancin' in Jingle Bell Square In the frosty air What a bright time, it's the right time To rock the night away Jingle bell time is a swell time To go glidin' in a one-horse sleigh Giddy-up jingle horse, pick up your feet Jingle around the clock Mix and a-mingle in the jinglin' feet That's the jingle bell That's the jingle bell That's the jingle bell rock www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWXqmukiD3U&feature=related
