1964 - Richard Petty finishes a meaningless 26th in the Motor Trend 500 at Riverside after starting 2nd. He suffered transmission failure. About a month later, however, Richard claimed his first of seven Daytona 500s. Sadly, Little Joe Weatherly died during the Riverside race.

That film clip is so clear and clean and to see the drivers up close is incredible.

After all the discussion on the only black roofed Satellite and the only white topped Satellite, take a gander at Richard's 1963 Fury at 2:19 with the white hood!
It is tough to tell from the sometimes grainy footage, but it appears Richard was the only one to use a left-over car from the 1963 season.

Here's a vid still I DL'd from somewhere along the way. Gives you better view of white hood and white trim along the window lines. Attachments:

Back in the day it was not unusual for teams to break out an older car. Check this one out from the 1966 Firecracker 400 won by Sam Mquagg.
