At the risk of being considered dumb. why is there a range of C ubic Inches listed on the hoods of the cars. Some 426, 429 305?
I thought NASCAR dictated the CI. Did Dodge and Plymoth use differnt CI's
I know that at least dodgehemi will know the answer.

The 305 C.I. car is from the 1971 Daytona 500. Nascar would not let anyone run the Daytona or Super Bird unless a small block engine was used.
This is Dick Brooks in Mario Rossi's Dodge .He ran rather well in that event finishing top 10 even with a late race accident. Brooks used the draft to hang onto the leaders.

Thanks Rick. I'm sure we ALL recognize the 426 on the Dodges and the 429 on the Fords. But...what is the 429 on the hood of #99 Dodge?

The 43 pictured is Richard's 1969 Ford. So the 429 c.i. makes sense.
The 429 c.i. I'm asking about is on a Dodge.
I never heard of a Chrysler motor that is 429 cubic inches.

I found out through another source that the rules at that time allowed for a maximum of 429.9 cubic inches. Ray Nichels got all he could get.

To clarify the engine size rules of the time Nascar stipulated that one cubic inch of engine displacement was to equal 9.36 lbs towards the total weight of the car. If the CID numbers on the hood were more than the total car weight math the car would be declared illegal.

I just saw something on those photos ole stupid me never noticed before.
Check out those Vortex generators on the front of the doors.
CanAm made them pretty famous too.
There are several versions of those they use'em on Top Fuel and Funny Car too.
Tell ya what I've never been a Ford man I'll admit it but folks back in the day those Torino's were tough.

Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end. We'd sing and dance forever and a day. . . I do wonder. . . Will I miss them more or less as I get even older? ?? Or is there an answer?
