Richard's winning ways were over after 1984 but it was some ride. A journalist once questioned Buddy Baker if he thought that Richard Petty was over the hill late in his career and Baker's response was classic. "I would have liked to been on that hill". In 1985 Mike Curb Racing actually ran engines built by Dan Gurney's shop. It did not go well. There was a sigh of relief when Richard turned the latern back on in Level Cross in 1986. His cousin Dale Inman returned to the fold making it that much more special.
