A few months ago, I posted pictures of old Petty Enterprises transporters. If you liked those pictures, you will love this forum. forums.autosport.com/lofiversion/index.php/t63980-0.htmlIf you like racing history, there is a literal candy bowl of treats here. European sports car and Formula 1 transports predominate. Some CanAm stufff is there too. And some mid 60's LeMans shots, including a trio of GT40's on their way through France to the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans, scroll down to links near the bottom of page 32 and you will be surprised how they got to the track! US racing transports, including a truck load of Cobras at Bridgehampton on Long Island NY (on page 12) and another at Lake Garnett Kansas for their showdown with Corvettes on July 7th, 1963 (on page 19). Carl Haas's pick-up truck tow vehicle in 1968 (page 14) and Oscar Kovaleski of AutoWorld fame (page 19 near the bottom). If you built model cars in the early 70's, you KNOW Auto World. Many are vintage original pictures, some are pics of restorations and there are some diecast as well. I'm really enjoying paging through this and thought some of you might also.

I think it's pretty funny the extent and dollars to which Cobra replica owners/builders go to detail out their cars. And then you compare that to the condition of a "race ready" original!

I would love to have a Cobra replicar! At 59 though I think I would be quite satisfied with one of the new Mustang V8s and automatic with air???

It's heresy to some, but you could also have a Cobra with an automtic and a/c. And a hard top if you need it.

That is exactly what I would like. With the little Mustang OHC V8 in it. Convertible would be fine or detachable HT. Probably could get one for about the price of a new Mustang GT.

You can easily spend $100 grand on a Cobra. But you don't have to. A nicely done, very streetable car can be done in the $40s. Even less if you add your own labor to the build. And most of the replica manufacturers have an optional, removeable hardtop.
