He was never much for talkin but his right foot said it all. The old saying of Dropping the Hammer describes Bobby Isaac perfectly.
A short track ace, Isaac led the series in 1969 with 18 victories only to place sixth in the point standings. Harry Hyde finally put something under Bobby that would hold up as he powered his way to the title in 1970.
The legend of the red 71 Dodge Daytona lives on to this day as the mystery of Bobby Isaac can be defined with little effort. He is one of the best ever.
Driving a Detroit Taxi Cab probably gave him some good pointers on how to handle heavy traffic. He always wanted to run the big tracks and a lucky chance finally put him behind the wheel of a race car.
Benny Parsons became a big Joe Cocker fan when he recieved a little help from his friends in 1973. After crashing early in the last race of the season at Rockingham crew members from other teams helped to rebuild Benny's battered Chevrolet putting it back into competion. The window of opportunity opened wide as Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough suffured difficulties. Benny then became the 1973 Winston Cup Champion.
Benyy Parsons was humble and knew his blessings as he walked Daytona's beach shortly after winning the 1975 Daytona 500. This man from Ellerbe, North Carolina was loved by all and we were blessed to see Benny touch stardom as no one was more deserving.
This man from Timmonsville, South Carolina has lived an interesting life indeed. He has survived a failed parachute jump and was drafted by the NFL Washington Redskins. Fortunately Cale Yarborough decided to do what he always wanted and that was driving race cars.
As a young boy Cale peered through a fence at Darlington Raceway knowing that he wanted to drive there one day. Five victories in the Southern 500 proved his point and he was pretty good at Daytona as well, winning 9 times at the big track.
Yarborough was like a Bull Dog on the short tracks and when he was hooked up it was Katie Bar the Door. On several occasions Cale led every lap of a race. Add three consecutive championships and you have one of the toughest drivers ever on a race track.
