Bobby Hamilton drove three seasons for Petty Enterprises, 1995, 1996 and 1997.
He won for PE at Phoenix in October 1996 and at Rockingham in October 1997. The 1996 win was the first win for the #43 since Richard's last win in 1984.
My favorite Hamilton story:
Hamilton broke into the Winston Cup ranks when he was asked to drive one of the movie cars for the 1990 film Days of Thunder. He qualifyied fifth in a movie car at the 1989 AutoWorks 500 in Phoenix, in a car that was not intended to be competitive. The car was the #51 Exxon-sponsored machine, portrayed in the movie as being driven by the character Rowdy Burns.

Remember Bobby almost won another race at Rockingham, but was KNOCKED out of the lead by the black number 3. Bobby fit in good at PE. Good guy, hard to believe hes not with us any more.

Great pics RIC. Hamilton gave that car some good runs thru that time period. I remember that race when the 3 car knocked hamilton out .and i remember him saying after the race " you haven,t seen the last of the 43 " and he was right. He was taken way to soon,

That day at Rockingham Bobby made a tactical error by racing with Earnhardt. Near the end of the season Bobby brought the 43 to victory lane for the first time in 12 years and the first for Petty Enterprises since 1983. What a day !
Next year at the Fall Rockingham race Bobby took the checkers again on Monday after a rain out from the previous day. The chassis he drove was actually built by the Richard Petty Driving Experience shop.

He also finished in the Top 15 in the standings every season he drove for us as well. One or two Top 10' if not mistaken.

About 5 years ago, I took my son's cub scout Webelos boys to Bobby Hamilton Racing when it was still in Mt. Juliet TN. Richard and Kyle cleaned up Bobby's Phoenix winning 43 and gave it to him. It was displayed in BHR's lobby. I snapped a pic of my son standing next to it. I sent it first to the King to be autographed. I was then fortunate enough to have Bobby sign it when his cancer was in remission and before it returned again with a vengeance. Attachments:
