Sad. Starting 31st.
I truly hoped for better than that.

Bubba was doing pretty good, moving all the way up to third place, then got of line and the 48 moved in his spot and he quickly moved to the rear and never could recover after that. That one mistake ended possibly a good finish.

For what he had Bubba did pretty good. At the 11th caution he had managed to get up to third. You see what happened when you don't have a car. When it was time to go ...... the good cars shoved him right on back to the rear. End of real excitement for the 43. Finishing 22nd and in one piece not bad but still 22nd.
Look at the difference. Jr. wrecked, pretty good lick too, got a lap down managed to hang on with a couple good pit stops ( super crew work ) worked his way back up to 4th before he got taken out. I don't think he would have won the race but but he had enough car to make a real challenge. Not a Jr. fan but I have real respect for the man.
The 43 is still 3 mph plus off the pace virtually every track they go to. Kinda sickens me a little when they do a RPM special and show the shop with a bunch of cars they look all racy and nice but they are all a mid pack car.
At some point ( hopefully ) soon someone will put the finger on the real problem, it may be a small combination it also may be something that just isn't in the ability of those working the car to control. Be it straight out money, chassis, power, equipment, equipment they use on the car. There is something there that is just behind what 25 other cars are running in front of the 43 it's just that simple. If all is truly equal then there is a BUNCH of people that have to go. With the knowledge they have, and have had in the past, if they are truly running equal equipment I feel bad for the people there that may know better. Week after week getting outrun BADLY.
Until Aric's crash the 43 appeared to be making some progress it looked to me that some of the late race calls were starting to be made more about not just finishing but going for much better position.
When Aric does come back I really hope they can take up where they were, and Aric doesn't have a lingering injury.

Dan, you need to check the finishing order. Bubba finished 15th not 22nd. Hopefully that makes you feel better.

Twiss I stand corrected and don't mind one bit. Yes it does make me feel better. I'm sure there are some folks that think I'm all negative that's not true although I can see where folks feel that way. I'm a 43 die hard for over 50 years Twiss. The last 30 of those have contained a lot of agony. Yep I was / am SPOILED never in my wildest did I ever think the RP or now RPM camp would struggle so not just for a win but good finishes and being somewhat competitive week to week.
I was at the last race on the beach in 58 ( 13 ) and was at the first race on the Daytona track. Lee won that of course been a Petty fan all along. Unfortunately for me I was in Nam when Richard won 27 races can you imagine that now ..... impossible of course and the circumstances then were much different also. But that SPOILED me. What spoiled me even more was when Richard got taken out he never made a lot of excuses most famous words We'll Be Back Next Week. So was Richard my idol and someone that I had deep respect for YES and even more so now.
I've turned wrenches for a long time and believe me I understand how something running so well all of a sudden can't get out of it's own way. Been there done that.
It's been said, even on here people are thinking Richard is in there name only. He may not have enough control to get the right equipment or people or have the money. He did get WAY behind the 8 ball staying with STP and minimum funding. Even way back trying to keep Kyle in a car just about put RP out of racing. Abate came along and snagged Kyle for a while.
Believe me when the 43 is in front at the checkered you'll feel the ground shake down here in FLA. It's just painful to watch year after year, week after week the 43 car getting left.
