Great pictures. I really like the Petty pit shot. Things sure have changed on pit road over the years. It looks like the guy at the left front of the car is smoking. That would go over big now, wouldn't it?

Things have surely changed. Look at that hat one of the crew is wearing. No safety suits or helmets, and short sleeves at that. Thanks for the 64, as it really makes this place home now!!!

Thanks guys. I also noticed that there is no pit wall in the Petty pit. Not sure but I think that was at Nashville. Check out the two station wagons ....this pick ooozes "60's".
ALso the front of Pearson's car is a 60's statement. Has anybody ever seen the street version of that car ? Barrett Jackson Auction ? Doubt it.
Nascar needs to wake up with this. If they can build their own car inside and out then they can build one that is not so aero dependent and let the drivers drive. The key difference from then and now is how the front of the new cars are. They do not want air going underneath and this has been going over 20 years.
The wrap around ground hugging facia's make the car better but at the same time this reduces the draft effect and causes a push condition. The newer cars are glued to the ground. This is why we see the leader pull away so often at many tracks where aero is in play.

I have the same petty pit stop pic on facebook. Is that Lee Petty at the front of the car smoking a cigarette? Better yet who is'nt smoking, times have changed.

I thought the same thing olblue. It's tough to tell, but the hair and profile on the "smoker" does look like Lee.

First time I ever saw Interstate Batteries on Richard's 64. Usually it was either Plymouth by Petty or Patterson Motors, who still exist and own a dealership.
