Could be just angle but I swear the left opera window is larger than the right.
I loved that track. I spent a lot of time out there. My car club the Riverside Pontiacs used some of the facilities for our meetings.
Never in hundred years did I ever think they would sell it and plow it under. The land just became worth so much more.
Ontario was the same thing. The land just became worth so much more.

It is sad Riverside isn't there anymore. The first race I really read about was there.

Could be just angle but I swear the left opera window is larger than the right. The top picture is a Monte Carlo, and the bottom picture is a Buick Regal. That's where the difference in windows comes from. I had to look twice to figure it out. (No, I didn't read the captions first, but I bet that would have made it easier on me.) By the way, does anyone remember when Buick came out with the Regal Grand National? That was a pretty hot car at the time.

The Grand National was introduced in 1984 commemorating Bobby Allison's championship in 1983. Allison also had technical input into that car.

actually, that monte carlo #43 pic is Kyle, not Richard. For this race only, the Petty's switched numbers and Richard drove the #42 trying to get it on the winners circle program. NASCAR frowned on the idea so they did not try it again. It was the last run for the big cars as you said.

Indeed you are correct. I now remember that switch. Good call. I will correct my comments and give you credit for it.

Buick Grand Nationals were made from 1984-1987. I have a 1987, sitting in the garage. Nice machine. In fact, it ate corvettes for lunch in 1987. In 1987 it was the fastest production car made in the US. Mine has just about 60K miles on it now. I bought it new in Jan 1988. Barks the tires going from 1st to 2nd, and from 2nd to Hi (depending on the road) with an automatic overdrive. Not bad for a 3.8L six cylinder.
