Red Byron on the Beach. Byron is Nascar's first Grand National Champ and won the first race on the Beach. Red was a great modified driver in his day. This is your Fathers Oldsmobile and Red's too. Bill Rexford, Nascar's youngest Grand National Champion at the age of 22. He was out of racing by the time he was 26 Look at the nose of this beast. A tape job is nothing new. Herb Thomas is Nascar's first two time champion and Nascar's first Superstar He was nearly unbeatable in his Hudson Hornet. Supposedly the first successful production vehicle that had a lowered floor the Hudson was very popular with the public. Thomas had both ends of the candle with Smokey Yunick turning the wrenches.

Great pictorial! I still think that there should be 5 pioneers and five from the 60's and 70's era as well as some of the people behind the scenes in this first selection. Great work, Rick!
