We will soon find out who will be the first inductee's into Nascar's Hall of Fame. Think a couple of these guys will be a part of it ? This pic is not rare at all but I stumbled on a larger format of this photograph and just had to show it. Daytona 500, 1977. Cale won the race. Every one was looking for a repeat of the 1976 shoot out between Petty and Pearson. It was not meant to be as both bowed out due to engine failure. Some other cool stuff is waiting in the wings.

Yes! Petty and Pearson both should be there! Those two are the best drivers Nascar ever had. I think that can be said without question.

Very nice choices. I think I would put a couple of the fifties guys in there like Lee Petty for one. His organization may finally have had to merge but even after all these years. He was our founder and he started what Richard was given to turn into what he did to a great degree. For another there are so many choices. I am just afraid that after this year they will go for more and more modern drivers. Some deserve it for sure but those in the past will be gone. We should have an old timers committee to elect the forties and fifties guys. We should add maybe three or five a year for them alone. A museum of five is not really that much. A museum with a few from each era is what they need.
Just my thoughts. Got to agree with Fireball and Jr. Jr got cars that weren't normally competitive to run and even win. Fireball was a racer's racer. He paid the price for what so may do. But this is no sob story, but the story of a man who was that good as a driver that met the nightmare.
Ooops, here goes a book.
Thanks Rick, that was great as always. These sidetrips you give us sure do leave the economy and the problems of the world far behind. To our happy place.

Who I want and who "they" will pick are slightly different. My five would be: Bill, Sr Richard Dale, Sr Bobby Allison Cale Yarborough
But I think "they" will pick: Bill, Sr Richard Dale, Sr David Pearson either Bill, Jr or Junior Johnson
Looking forward to watching the announcement on line!
