USS New York Arrives in New York

An exciting but somber moment in the New York area this morning as the USS New York arrived in the New York harbor on her mainden voyage.

The bow of the USS New York contains 7.5 tons of steel forged from columns from the World Trade Center. You can read more about her at www.ussny.org/

She paused off lower Manhattan for a 21 gun salute at 8:05 a.m.

Great pics Paul and a very worthy reason to share them. That the ship contains steel from the towers is something very meaningful.

That's something you'll never see in Pittsburgh! On a good day we'll get a half-dozen barges and a tugboat...or some inner tubers who've been hitting the Iron City Beer pretty hard!!

If you look up the statistics on this ship, you find out it is longer than its namesake battleship from World War I and WWII. It is configured to deploy a significant number of marines with their vehicles and gear, either by sea or by air. Very impressive.
