Great points! What we need back at Daytona and Dega is that ability to race!

I'm with you Donmoss. Both on the reasons Nascar will not change and on the things they should change if they had the desire to do so.
I think the changes you suggest, in particular the engine and suspension changes, would create a car that allows drivers to drive and a car that is less prone to "the big one" wreck.
I still like the idea of controlling top speeds through some regulation of final drive ratio. Even Rusty said, after his unrestricted test at Talladega, driving at those speeds in race conditions would be insane.
I think giving teams "...control over what ever tire they wish to run on...." would be a challenge, simply because of the cost to the tire manufacturers of bringing multiple spec tires to each event. Is Goodyear the sole tire supplier because they bought the rights? Or because other suppliers backed away? I recall having Goodyear and Hoosier at one point. And Hoosier made decision to no longer supply Sprint Cup tires.

Things to ponder.
1. Drivers will only drive as fast as the car will stick to the track. So limiting engines is not needed.
2. The tire issues between hoosier and Goodyear were interesting. one would be fast for qualifying and one would be durable for the race. Who cares. they will run what is fastest in qualifying and run what holds up best in race conditions.
3. If your afraid for the fans then put all the seats on the inside of the track corners.........centrifical force will keep them out of the stands then.
4. Mandate the drivers cockpit area for saftey and all body panels must be manufaturer spec except middle to conform to cockpit area.
5. If teams can make a "Stock Car" go 300 mph then so be it. A. if drivers are willing to drive it. B. and if 43 others are willing to be on track with it. C. Then race the dang things.
5. New Motor rules 1. Stock Blocks 2. Stock Heads 3. Stock Crank 4. Teams can do anything they want to the engines as long as they don't change those 3 parts.
(imagine how much money that would save)
We would then watch the manufacturers get involved in racing. toyota would have been running 4 & 6 cylinder motors and whooping on the v-8's if they didn't get their junk in order.
What do you all think?

There is one big problem with your suggestions, Don: they make way too much sense. That would be a chance to bring some sanity to the cost of racing and put the cars back in the drivers' hands. Brian France would accuse you of hanging out with Furrd and Furrari too long. It would be fun to watch, though. We might get some real racing again. Maybe Toyota could make a 4 banger hold up for 200 laps at 200 mph. That would be a screamer at about 18,000 RPM.

just think how good our stock motors in our production models would become.
Our engines would give 400K each.........the cranks would never wear out with our use LOL
