First thing I think is that we should name dodgehemi to head the "old timers" committee. No offense meant or anything. That is what they called it in the Baseball hall and it seems to work. Dodgehemi and perhaps two or three others that were race fans in the fifties could give a lot of insight into that era. Looking for other senior members to assist dodgehemi in finding and selecting nominees for the "Early" or "Pioneer" era. I also think that though others will also vote on the final inductees that I myself will take great direction from the committee. If we can't find at least three or four for the committee we should then find younger "historians" that can fill that need. Next we will work on the next era which I think should be the 60's and part of the seventies. Ideas on how to separate into three or four eras. I also like the ideas of the Flock monkey being taken in as well as the birds at Daytona Beach. These are things the other halls dont and won't have.

Alright, we'll take the monkey and the pigeons, but we don't want Digger.
Some of you may recognize the format of that quote as coming from Blazing Saddles. Mel Brooks movies are favorites of mine.

Reposting my comments from the other thread...I'm still pitching for less "over-sight". Each of us is a one man/woman nominating and approving committee. If you want someone in the Richard Petty Fan Forum Hall of Fame, go right ahead and enshrine them. But... You must prepare a proper shrine. Your enshrinement posting must include some history of the person, a picture or two (or more) including a shot or two of the person's cars if they are a driver. Once it's done, it's done! Who are we to judge or vote down someone else's HOF opinion? Except of course we'd all be free to add our own supporting comments or counterpoints to each thread. Each forum member would be able to enshrine as many honorees as they wish. But each must be in their own thread and contain the history, pics etc.

Since I was named by songsmith1950 I will say I will be glad to help out but I thank to keep it simple and to a point we stell should have it set up on era time frame like 1949 to 1960, 1961 to 1970, 1971 to 1980, 1981 to 1990, 1991 to 2009. 2 from each would give us 10 in the first class plus having Lee, Richard, and Adam would be alot for the first class.
After that let each member choise 2 honoree fron each era per year.

If we let each member nominate a driver or other person some will need help in posting pics or maybe finding pics and all. Can we find volunteers to help with this? Also Rick though we might go off site and set up a separate Richard Petty Fans Hall Of Fame. We might could get a better html setup that way, but here would also be fine. Ideas?

OK, so maybe pictures wouldn't be a requirement. But I'm sure Rick or I or others would add pictures to a thread if requested.

I thank that the person that is in the HOF their picture should be on the site.

I agree Dodgehemi.
What I meant was, a forum member could post a hall of famer without a picture (either 'cause they don't have one or are not sure how to post pics) and there are enough of us here to help out with finding and posting a picture for them.
