Hi again. It looks like we may well put up a Hall Of Fame here. I think it will be fun and we will salute some here that France Inc. never will.
Since we are not that big in numbers I think each of us should get to nominate one. There will surely be multiples that will reduce that number. But I think each of us should get a wild card vote that will guarantee that driver or whoever admission. In that way each of us can surely have our own most special in here. I also think that one special selection each should not include Richard or Lee Petty. They should be automatic as they brought us here.
As far as the number admitted there are several ways to go. We can have 5 pioneers from pre 63 or so, five from 63 to perhaps 78 or so and then five from 78 til now. These are just basic ideas and requests from us for ideas from each of you.
Also if we do multiples from each era perhaps we could begin with one of each era and even have separate threads for each driver or each era?
Or perhaps to keep it from being too overwhelming we could do one or two from each era the first month and then one per month for each era afterward for the first year perhaps and then maybe add five per year.
I also think my own salary should be under a million a year to start. Of course there can be raises over time.

Just my 2 cents I like you thank Richard and Lee Petty should not even be in the voteing they are in automatically.
Then add 5, 2 each say from 1950 to 1970 then 2 from 1971 to 1990,
then 2 from 1991 to 2009, that would give us 8 then choise 2 from 1950 to 2009. that would be 10, after that pick 2 per month from 1950 until today.
Give each member a vote and the adm. veto power if 1 person gets over a 100 vote.
Each member Nominate 2 from each ear.
At the end of the year we should have a larger HOF than NASCAR.

Sounds good to me. I'd go for five in Nov, five in Dec, five in Jan, etc. That way we get to savor each era.

Great ideas. Lets keep them flowing for a bit and see what all think. I do agree on the eras for sure. What I fear in the Nascar hall is that the pioneers won't really be in there for a long time. I also realize that if we give each member a guaranteed appointment for one driver to the hall we will have a few that will never make the France Hall of Fame. That is fine, I don't mind. If one of us remembers someone that led them to Nascar that they followed for at least five years or who was killed before five years we should allow that person to vote one in. I also think Adam Petty should be in there. Perhaps we can have a "Dream" section in our hall for those who died before doing what we thought they would do. Bottom line, my friends. This is OUR hall. WE decided who gets in and who doesn't. WE are US and if we have a favored all time driver that will never make any other hall but who meant nascar to us they should be considered. At this point I am thinking a new branch of threads or main topic with a branch of threads for each era and for other topics as needed. Please, more thoughts. I think we can make this something we are proud of.

Richard, Lee, Adam first in
Then by era wirh each member nameing one to be placed in. Then I belivie we could name 2 a month for the first year,
Also induct one famous Race Car. Like the 1967 Plymouth or the 1970 Superbird because it was only used 1 year.
A Good Name for our HOF Would be Richard Petty Fan Hall of Fame.

I would like to nominate for the "pre-63" group: Jocko, the Flock brothers' monkey. He boldly went where no man has gone before---and I mean he WENT. And maybe the seagulls who gave their lives on the first lap of every race on the beach at Daytona. They should be recogonized too since by lap two they were unrecognizable. Thank you.

This sounds great. I like the idea of voting for a particular time frame. The car hall of fame is a good idea, too. There is no need for anyone to nominate a Petty. This is our Hall of Fame after all, and the Pettys are why we are here. When the rules are set, I will surely cast my votes. I agree with Tom's salary guideline of under a million dollars. How about a million dollars under a million dollars, and we'll negotiate percentage increases as time goes by. What is ten percent of zero?

Awwww Rev. I wasn't going to say how much under a million. . . . But for the record it will be yes, well under a million. No cost over runs and not drama. Just a nice hall of fame that we can believe in. Oooops, believe in, hmmm, that would be a change. . . Hmmmmmm change you can believe in.. . . . . Hmmmmmm, uh. We will have a wonderful hall of fame. Waiting some for Rick and Don and Paul who voted no to give thier ideas too as well as others but this is really going well.

Great Ideas.....Great topic Here are my suggestions: > First class would be 2 each from Pre-60's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. >The drivers would be classified into the decade which they had most wins. > Each month there after we put 1 additional from each decade, nominated and voted on by the masses. > After the initial class would could also vote on a wild card selection that could change each month (ie. crew chief, mechanic, car owners, or special considerations) > Run nominations the first two weeks of month, debate the next week and vote the last week of the month. Then make the announcement during the first week on the following month. > We as a group could be the most well informed group in Nascar (if not already) by learning about each of the nominated people. > We could even have a link to our HOF showing each member with stats, picture and when elected.
Sorry I got on a roll here. Just some of my thoughts.

You know, people with ideas like that usually get put in charge of things. Just a thought. Sounds like a great idea, especially posting pics and bios. We could start our own web site with info like that, of course most of it would probably be pirated, so that may not be such a good idea.

Hey Tom...I said I only voted no to be a pain! I think what we've got here is a typical bunch of car guys/gals who are over-engineering this. I propose a completely different approach, one I think is much more in the spirit of the RPFF. Here's my idea. Each of us is a one man/woman nominating and approving committee. If you want someone in the Richard Petty Fan Forum Hall of Fame, go right ahead and enshrine them. But... You must prepare a proper shrine. Your enshrinement posting must include some history of the person, a picture or two (or more) including a shot or two of the person's cars if they are a driver. Once it's done, it's done! Who are we to judge or vote down someone else's HOF opinion? Except of course we'd all be free to add our own supporting comments or counterpoints to each thread. Each forum member would be able to enshrine as many honorees as they wish. But each must be in their own thread and contain the history, pics etc.

Oh and one other thing...maybe the HOF becomes another section of the board?
I know, I know, that sounds like the "other" board.
Maybe all HOF threads start on the main board, but as conversation dwindles, a trusty admin can move it to a permanent place in the HOF archive?
