Good read stuck.
The cars have been messed up since around 2002 or so. Nascar gave the teams what they wanted with offset and aero and then took it away with the COT. It is still messed UP.

I think even with the seat in the center for safety and with the other safety features they could make the car a lot more predictable and raceable.

Every one wanted parity............we when everyone is the same no one can pass................DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NASCAR is regulating itself to death............Give the cars back some of it's set up spread...........let the drivers be themselves........this censorship stuff is taking the life out of everything.............we let drug dealers and sex offenders run our streets but gosh.........let one NASCAR driver say " S H I T " and the world comes to an end.
Broadcasters wake up..............if you want ratings to go up........show something new and interesting..........the Hendricks show is getting boaring...............spend time on all 43 cars you just might be surprised..........
As for the run up front and we will cover your B S.......... the only way to get covered is to be running next to the 48. That makes TV Boring.................I flipp back and forth just to follow the ticker on top of screen as it is the only way to follow my drivers.

I agree that the "rubbin is racin" thing has been thrown out the window a long time ago. Go to you local short track if you want to see real rubbin and racin. These guys do not want to mess up the sponsor logos on the side of the car. Now with that being said, in todays races 9 times out of 10 you will have 20-25 cars on the lead lap at the finish. They are all chasing the Hendrick cars none the less but still fighting for position. Now if you watch SPEED TV and some of the CLASSIC races from the past, races would have 3 cars on the lead lap! And the 5th place car would be 5 laps down. It is way more competitive than it used to be. The thing I would change is throw all of the computers out of the garage. Setup the car with your racing background and know how. If NASCAR could get the car back into the crew chiefs hands and out of Microsofts hands then I believe the racing would get better. Now I know I have touched on about 10 different subjects but I am at home for the 4th straight day with the flu and it is driving me crazy. Altman43

Good points by everyone. I also beleive the Hendrick show is running a little thin. JJ too! I mean yes, congrats on doing all of this but at the same time it would be nice if there was competition. Right now it should be the Nascar Hendrick series. Hoping a new year and the new Ford engine among other things will bring us, along with Rousch up to the Hendrick level. It can happen and theoretically in time it should happen. It doesn't take that much difference in cars that are supposed to be equal to make a certain team or owner's cars consistently faster enough to have what we have here. We have proven we can run with them at times with one car. What is missing is being able to run with them with at least two of our four cars if not three or all four. There is a thin line between us and them. The new Ford engine should surely help. Perhaps enough for us to at least meet if not cross that line. Meeting it would be fine with me. As far as the announcers. . . . not sure what to do except maybe just have the networks tell them to cover everyone in the race for at least a few second. Put up a chart in the broadcast booth and make sure that each time they talk about a car to check it off. Also make sure every car is checked off at least once each race.

My point on the Hendrick show is this,
NASCAR sprint cup racing is made up of 43 cars on the track. All 43 cars have fans. To keep all fans there needs to be coverage of all 43 cars.
NASCAR's ratings are not plummiting, they are down by a few percent.
Our Economy shrank rapidly by 30-40% in most areas. that is 30-40% decline in resources......people have lost jobs. Less tickets will be sold.
The dilema NASCAR Tracks are facing is this.........is the drop temporary. Do we discount tickets this year and make the same amount of money with 100,000 tickets or do we drop the price and sell 120,000. IF they drop the price then they erode the selling price of there next race.
Teams are having the same problem with sponsorship dollars......why discount now if it will rebound later.
TV ratings are not down by much. But I do feel they are down because a large amount of fans of the 2nd and 3rd teir teams are not getting anything out of the broadcasts.
The media needs to understand the NASCAR their audiance better. There is just way to much time involved to spend 3-4 hours talking chad and jimmy.
Tell every drivers story..........why should we need to coop our efforts to listen to in car broadcasts to find out what is happening to our cars. If a park and start pulls off, go interview them and ask, Did you pull of the track becuase you figured you made enough money today? Do you think its fair to get a check when you have no intention of running the hole race? Are your sponsor happy that you only attempted to run 5 laps. How long do you think they would keep doing that if that is what was broadcast each week.
Start Reporting whats going on at the track. you have 3 hours of time...........if the racing is only changing positions between the 30 and 31st driver show them racing.........the stay in line leaders will start racing so they get air time. Why should any team use up there equipment if they get lots of air time for playing follow the leader.
There is always racing going on.........they just need to show it. Like someone said earlier........in the past winners would lap the entire field......now most races hold 10-25 cars all the time. There is racing going on. We just are not being shown it or hearing it on the radio.

Two words for TV: split screen. Show the "Jimmie show" on the left and side by side pack racing on the right. I could deal with that. As for the cars, put all the Toyota crew chiefs in one room, Dodge in another etc. Ask each group for 5 things they want to make the cars drivable. Then take their lists into another room and give them the things that appear on every list. They'll only ask for what they really want. No one will give away "family" secrets in a room full of competitors. Everyone should leave happy.

I am not sure about all of it Don. To be sure the Cup series is more competitive as there are way more good teams than years ago.
The TV ratings are down significantly by 12%. This is Nascar's deal and they have transformed their series into something that closely resembles the European V8 Super Car series but at least that series uses production cars. Compare the two. The current Cup car looks very simillar the Euro cars. Nascar also has a business/consulting alliance with F1 concering how to brand their magic. You do not hear anyone talking about this but it is true. It shows on the track.
Nascar has blown it big time by letting the teams do what they wanted with the cars after 2K. Then Nascar tries to fix it by designing their own car with the COT. Remember when the sanctioning body made all of the cars have the same roof profile modeled after a Ford ? Can't let anyone have an advantage can they ? If I want to see everything the same I can watch ants or bumble bees.
These guys are without a clue. They pissed off the hardcore fans by taking away the Southern 500. Big Bill France would have never let that happen among other things. Bruton Smith has also changed the face of stock car racing dramatically.
Lets take a look at North Wilkesboro. I cannot remember ever seeing a bad race at that track. If any speedway shows the roots of American stock car racing it is Wilkesboro. But because someone wants to make money instead of good hard nosed racing, She is no longer.
Outside of race tracks and dates the real issue is the cars. The are areo dependent and have been for quite awhile. The areo has diminished the draft on the intermediate tracks and alters the way these care handle in general.
The new generation of car has alomost no air going underneath because of the splitter and side curtains. The car previous to the COT also had no air underneath. To me this is the key. In addition the new car has less suspension travel making the set up even more critical. I can understand the aero treatment at Talladega, (and by the way they will have a smaller plate next week) but it is not necessary at smaller tracks.
Take the junk off of these cars and we would see something good. Stock car racing used to be distinctive and unique but now it just stinks as Nascar and guys like Bruton Smith are all about market share.
The boys in Daytona are into themselves to the point that two Frances get into the hall with a selection commitee that includes Nascar execs and three people that were actually on the nomination list.
No wonder people are tuning out

I still say we are only a few shades away from competing with the Hendrick boys, at least on Kasey's part. The new Ford engine and the new chassis will bring us up to par with them. After reading and studying the new Ford engine I think it was the missing link. Next year those of our guys that are not fast are not capable.
