OK, I have to show my ignorance, but I need to know. What is the purpose of the lines in the message block that say "Karma", "Smite", and "Exalt"? I should probably know this, but I don't. I feel so out of touch with the modern world sometimes. It isn't easy having gone from rotary dial phones to high speed internet in one lifetime.
Sometimes reality is not a savory meal, but it is the only thing on the plate.

It is a way of rating members of the forum. Not sure about more than that. You can exalt, which would give one a higher karma rating, or you can smite which would lower that score. For myself I prefer we all to be equal and not really have any more info than post count.
Nosuch thing as a dumb question revilo. I had no idea wath they meant either!
Rotary phones? I wonder if 45jracing has ever see a rotary phone?
When I was a kid, my grandparents had summer house in Peru MA. My great-grandfather had built it in the early 1909. We had a party line (shared I think, with three other houses).

Heck, my children don't even remember a time without color t.v.! My husband and I were talking about that yesterday. We didn't even HAVE a t.v. when we got married and our first one we bought was black and white.
Heck we had a party line up through 1979............ we finally got our seperate phone lines during my junior year in high school. There where 4 families with teenagers on the group of 8. We all lived 25 miles from our highschool. So imagine the competition for phone time in the evenings.........the fun part is we could all get in our each others conversations. Since it was long distance to the town our school was located we would take turns calling and all join in. Now it is a special feature, Conference Calling, heck that is just a fancy word for Minnesota Party lines. LOL

Somewhere out there 45jracing is laughing at us!
That same summer house had no running water until the mid 60's. But we had a two seat out house. I always thought that was pretty funny...since NO one ever "shared" the out-house.

You know, Paul, I always wondered about those two seaters myself! I remember when we first had a telephone it was one of the old ones that you had to crank. Must have been the early 50's since I really don't remember phones until we moved to our first house that my parents owned when I was 4 or 5. Don't remember having the crank phone for long, though. And I remember the party lines, too.

We had an outhouse til the early 60's.
Don't forget the Sears catalog. Funny how some sections never got used even when the real toilet paper ran out. I didn't realize why it was there til one frozen morning when I went out and didn't look before taking care of business.
Those were the days. That and a five number phone number. And party lines, though we didn't have one long.

before I built my last house in 2005 on Smith Mtn. Lake in Va., we had a cabin, no running water and a one seater. Just a place for summer outings. My wife was scared to death of the johnnie house! It was pretty clean, all considered. I remember a neighbor had a party line when I was a kid back in the late 70's. WOW!

Lol no I have not seen a rotary phone anywhere except for a museum. But I do remember when house phones where attached by a cord! Those where the days let me tell yea, but my mom has many story's of when she was younger her first job was a switch bored operator. Which goes wayyyy back lol. Also my name is Ryan so y'all dont have to use my username all the time.
