Listening to the new Beatles digital remixes as I watch this part of the race. Incredible. Lots of the horns and "Wall Of Sound" are left out of these and it is wonderful. You can hear the real band and they WERE that good.
It is like being introduced to them all over again. The vocals so much more crisp and the bass so much more full.
If you ever loved the Beatles I advise these strongly.

Tom,
Which did you buy, stereo or mono? I'm undecided so far.
I did something really cool today that I have not done in about 20 years. I listened to an actual vinyl record. I finally adapted my old turntables to my Bose sound system. Springsteen Live was on first. Followed shortly by Abbey Road.

Sounds like a great time!!! I even love cover bands if they are good. I played lead guitar and sung harmonies in an Elvis cover band for two and half years in the early seventies at Legion Hall Post 151 in Atlanta and we had a great time. People loved Elvis music. Second and forth sets all Elvis, first and third were mostly classic rock and country. It was a good time.

Tom! Dude! If you stop ignoring me, I'll get Judith to return some of your crayons. Which remastered Beatles did you buy? Mono? Or Stereo? I'm undecided. And relying on music experts like you to guide me!

Oh, sorry! I bought Abbey Road and Past Masters. Past Masters is a collection off of several that has many of my very favorites on it remastered. It is a winner!

Thanks Tom.
The Beatles felt that all their music should be released in mono, and that is how they were recorded. Even for original albums that were released in stereo, the stereo separations were "created" by manipulating the mono recordings in the studio.
To honor that, when the producers went back into the studio to remaster the original recordings, they created two different pressings for each album, one in mono and one in stereo.
That was my original question, is your newly remastered Abbey Road the mono? Or the stereo?
I'm probably going to dig deep for the complete remastered box set. I'm just trying to decide which collection of albums to buy, mono or stereo.
Thanks

I got the stereo versions. This does mean that in some songs it is as it was long ago and the music is on the left and the vocals on the right. That is fine with me. The vocals seem so much more crisp and alive as do the guitars. And the bass is not as subdued as it was to make AM car speakers sound better. I am going to get the full set one at a time, can't quite dig deeply enough for the entire set.
Gotta add it may just be me. But when I produce and engineer a CD I love working with the stereo field. You can do so many things with perception. Also you can keep one side or the other from becoming saturated with a frequency or group of them by spreading them out and assigning them to one side or the other or to partially one side. It is all fun and I enjoy seeing how others use the field.
