1958 - Lee wins the pole but finishes 9th in a 150 lap race at Champion Speedway in Fayetteville NC. Julian Petty's Chevrolets all fare better than Lee: Gwyn Staley 2nd, Rex White 6th, and Bob Welborn 8th. 1970 - Richard wins the Savannah 200 at Savannah (GA) Speedway. 1992 - Kyle finishes 8th in the Motorcraft Quality Parts 500 at Atlanta. The race itself stunk. Bill Elliott wasn't all that competitive early in the race. He stayed on the track while others pitted. Then a caution flew, Elliott was able to pit under caution, and every other car got pinned a lap down. From there, Awful Bill cruised to victory. A great memory from the day, however, was our visit to the Quaker State / Brett Bodine hospitality tent before the race. From there, we were able to sneak into the Snickers / Dick Trickle area and then into the garage area. I was able to squeeze off a couple of photos: One of Kyle's 42: And one of the driver who eventually became the 1992 Cup champ and a good friend of Kyle. RIP Underbird.
