1957 - In a 200 lap race at Wilson (NC) Speedway, Lee finishes 4th in a #42 Oldsmobile and Tiny Lund finishes 5th in a second #188 Petty Oldsmobile. 1963 - In the Atlanta 500, Petty Enterprises fields 3 cars. Richard finishes 8th in the #43, Jim Paschal finishes 14th in the #41, and Indy car journeyman Jim Hurtubise finishes 22nd in the #42 Petty Plymouth. (see below for story about Hurtubise) 1968 - Richard wins the pole for the Southeastern 500 at Bristol, but he finishes 2nd to David Pearson. 1985 - Kyle finishes 11th and Richard finishes 13th in the Coca-Cola 500 at Atlanta International Raceway. Dick Brooks races an unsponsored, Maurice Petty-prepared #1 Ford to a 38th place finish. Best Jim Hurtubise story/legacy: On May 21, 1972 - Indy 500 "bump day" - he put his Miller Beer sponsored car in line to make a qualifying attempt just before the closing deadline. However, the time expired before it was his turn to qualify. He then removed the engine cover to reveal the car had no engine. Instead, the engine compartment contained five chilled cases of his sponsor's product which he shared with the other pit crews and race officials.
