1959 - Lee wins the Gwyn Staley 160 at North Wilkesboro driving a #43 Oldsmobile.

1960 - Lee finishes 4th and Richard finishes 6th in a 200 lap race at Columbia (SC) Speedway.

1964 - Richard finishes 7th in the Atlanta 500.

1981 - Richard wins the Northwestern Bank 400 at North Wilkesboro.

1987 - Kyle finishes 2nd to Dale Earnhardt in the First Union 400 at North Wilkesboro. Richard finishes 6th.

2000 - Lee Petty, the Petty racing family patriarch, dies.

Looks like April 5 was successful until Lee's passing. It is always sad to lose the patriarch. . . Very sad indeed. But at lease Lee got to not only have a very successful career, but he also got to see his son Richard do things no other racer will ever match.
