1966 - Richard wins from the pole in the Tidewater 250 at Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA.
1972 - Buddy Baker starts 5th and finishes 3rd in the Winston 500 #11 STP Petty Dodge. Richard starts 3rd and finishes 5th. The race was also the first career Cup start for Darrell Waltrip.
1977 - Richard finishes 5th in the Music City 420 at Nashville.
1983 - Richard finishes 6th and Kyle finishes 17th in the Marty Robbins 420 at Nashville. I didn't get to go to the race. However, I did go to qualifying the night before, got several photos, and a ton of autographs in my copy of Grand National Stock Car Racing book with the lovely, iconic Linda Vaughn on the cover. The autographs include Tim Richmond, Dale Earnhardt (driving for Bud Moore), Dick Brooks, Neil Bonnett, Junior Johnson, Dave Marcis, Ron Bouchard, Jimmy Means, and Dale Inman (crew chief for Terry Labonte) among others. Regrettably, Linda is the one person whose autograph I'd like to have in the book but don't.
Quality of the following pics is a bit sub-par. But with prints from a 110 camera and a less than top-line scanner, I got the best rez I could.
Kyle chilling on the King's throne.
A rare picture of the King without his shades at the track from the 1980s forward. All it took was my shout of "King!" for him to turn around and pose.
The 43 on the line ready for qualifying. It was amazing how easy it was even back then to just wander around the cars.
Kyle's car ready to qualify.
I've never been quite sure what Kyle was doing. A Napoleon pose? A monkey impression? Last minute fake, under-arm fart noises before getting in the car?
