KansasCity: George Gillett has scheduled a press conference Saturday at Kansas Speedway.
A CYA event or is he actually going to say something of value?

I can bowt bet that it aint gonna be good. If it was gonna be good news then he would let RP do the talking. When it comes to the rest of the news and business he wants to be the one to give the "good news" Altman43

RPM has been at the top of NASCAR news for awhile now.
Those new FORD engines are going to have gold plated piston rings and bearings. Heck, throw in some gold plated wheels for good measure.

we better hope for something more durable than gold............If Gillette is talking, you bet it's gonna have some "meat" in it.

It is good to be talked about instead of just withering away silently. And with Kasey doing his thing and now AJ stepping it up too the more talk the better.. I am confident our guys will be one of the top four teams next year. What will Penske do without Dodge? Perhaps we did far better than even we though when we went ahead with Ford?

www.mikemulhern.net/index.php?q=breakingnow/george-gillett-speaks-and-finally-reveals-some-details-about-his-nascar-plansincluding-pHere's some snippets... George Gillett Jr., the power and the money behind Richard Petty Motorsports, held an energetic 30-minute press conference Saturday at Kansas Speedway and made several points: -- He does indeed plan to remain in NASCAR, to win races, and to win the championship eventually, and he dismissed reports of "chaos" at RPM; -- His 'merger' plans with Ford's Doug Yates (a partner with Jack Roush) are on track; -- He plans at least a three-driver lineup in 2010, possibly four, but he declined to provide names, though he indicated Kasey Kahne and AJ Allmendinger were in his long-term plans; -- His financial discussions with Prince Faisal bin Fahad bin Abdulla of Saudi Arabia include a possible small ownership stake in RPM by the prince, which Gillett said would be a very small stake, just to cover legalities about confidentiality agreements; -- He declined to talk much about the Liverpool (UK) soccer situation; -- He repeatedly emphasized that many of his talks with new financial supporters were "in the very early stages," but he said that those people had identified 14 possible locations in the Middle East for potential NASCAR-type race tracks, including two current road course, and said any such new tracks would likely be small ovals. And Gillett said he wanted one of his current teams to run a Ford "before the end of the year." The location of the merged Gillett-Petty-Yates-Roush operation? "We have looked at three or four different sites....we have looked south of our current shop in Statesville, and we have looked at our Statesville shops," Gillett said. "No decision has been made. The people looking for us are looking at the current Yates' site (which is on the Roush compound, in Concord)."

Sounds all good to me. If we drop to three fast teams next year I am fine with that. Kasey and AJ long term is the real key! Having our shop on the Roush compound could not be a bad thing!!!!! I wouldn't mind being to Roush what Stewart Haas is to Hendrick. But in time I would like for us to go it on our own.

I don't think ANY Ford team is truly going it alone. I believe they all get their engines from Roush. Not sure if that is required by Ford or if it is choice. But it seems to be working!

That sounds positive. Three teams next year would be great. I think four is a stretch at this stage but they aren't ruling that out. Glad George said positive things. Maybe such positive talk will help the race teams to just concentrate on racing.

Roush/Yates is the supplier to all FORD teams as far as I know. It's actually more Yates than Roush as Doug runs the operation.
