Afew years back the T.V. ratings is what fueled the new T.V. broadcasting deals. Now Mr. France says he is not concerned about the declining ratings. Does anyone else think this guy needs a wake up call.

I don't think the jury is out on what all Brian France is in need of not the least of which is a wake up call! NASCAR fans pretty much have his number - ZERO.

Brian France is trying to build a corporation without regard to what made it what it is today. He tries to find generic "fans" who turn out to be either fleeting or just not interested. In the process he alienates so many "good old boys" who have loved Nascar for so very long.
Example, in the days before deciding California had to be taken we had earlier race times. For us that meant we could watch the race and then have plenty of time left on Sunday to visit parents or kids or go fishing or whatever we may want to do. Now in the interest of a lot of fans who don't even really care we have to take the full day pretty well for each race. Not good.
Many things. Too many things.

I just think we can be too hard on France.
You want him to be worried about the ratings.......you want him pandering to the networks for more gimmicks and tricks........you want even more changes to NASCAR....
Because thats what we would be getting from France worrying about the ratings.
NASCAR has increased it's air time by what? used to be 2 hours of compressed racing..........we were elated when they covered it live.........
Now we have Broadcast and rebroadcasts of every race.....we have TV coverage of the NASCAR and Truck Series. We have about 8 hours of continuous coverage on raceday.
Programming for NASCAR must be up around 40 hrs a week by now. thats 10 times the air time.
Ratings drop 6% and we should freek out..........not me.
Whats dropping the ratings is the networks coverage of the JJ show.
AJ ran in the top 10 alot on sunday.......how much air time did he get...........all the media says run in the top 10 and we will show them.........yeah right.......where was Jr. running all day.......he got more airtime than Khane did.
What should be paid attention to is the cummulative audiance for nascar.....tv, radio, and Internet.
And also us Vikings fans.............I missed 80% of the race becuase the Vikes where in a heated contest on sunday at the same time.

Me thinks the gimmicks and tricks are what is ticking off the hard core fans. I also think the TV ratings reflect what is going on with attendance at the track also.

I don't understand. Comcast here doesn't have any French TV stations. . . Is it part of a pay package or something?

You are right about that. I was there during the Tarkenton days, the Joe Capp days, the Tommy Kramer days, etc. I have frozen myself into a solid block of ice at Metropolitan Stadium and I've lived the good life in the boxes at the Humperdome. It would be great if they could win a Super Bowl. I'm sure BF has raised expectations quite high.

There is a bit of overkill of Nascar coverage but the product on the race track is what matters. If the racing is good then everything else falls in place.
We cannot expect a barn burner for every race but with what has happened to the cars in recent years is having an effect on the competition. These cars are so aero dependent that it can prevent real close door to door racing.
Who ever gets in front just takes off. JJ and his crew do this real well.
I have said it many times that Nascar needs to take the junk off of these cars and put it into the drivers hands. Before the COT Nascar gave the teams and drivers what they wanted creating an aero beast.
Nascar finally had enough of it and created their own beast. They have changed rules in every area of the cars from full tank size to compression limits. What do I know, but the days of throwing something together are long gone and Nascar wants it that way.
Media and TV exposure may also have an effect on the fan base. Back in the day just to see a few minutes of a taped race on Wide World of Sports was a big deal. The joke used to be that we could see some of a race that happened weeks before in between cliff diving. The radio was where I experienced Nascar racing and it was great.
Maybe the older fans like myself see this and lose a little something. Maybe the newer fans are fired up about Nascar like I was years ago. Either way, give me some hard nosed racing and I am in. Just do not see much of that anylonger.
