Look close and you will see a bolt on the roof near the top corner of the windshield. The hardtop is removable so the same car may be run in the convertible class. As Richard said several times over the weekend, "We was racers. We didn't have a ton of money." Richard's view I always knew about the door that Richard could open to see the condition of his front right tire. I learned this weekend about the tire light switch... ...which is connected to this lamp:

Great pics. Question, what is that triangle thing on the front of the hood and is attached to the front bumper.

Hi 4345....
That there's a high-tech hood hold-down.
It's a bungee cord. There is a hook bolted to the hood. The bungee cord is draped over it and the hooks on the bungee are simply clipped to the grill.

Great pics! Love the details on the tire check setup! That's the kind of ingenuity and character that made NASCAR and America great. Fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

I pulled out my trusty copy of "Cars of the King".
The '58 is not pictured. But there is a shot of Richard's '57 Olds.
It's hard to tell, but the '57 has what could be a fan belt holding the hood down. There is a black loop running from the hood to the bumper, with a bolt-hook through the hood as on the '58, and another single hook bolted to the top of the bumper.
So maybe the owner of the restored 58 took some liberties with the concept.
Hood pins appear for the first time on the 1962 Savoy. Until that time, most of the cars pictured have some sort of strap on the front center of the hood.

I am pretty sure the placard on the Olds said it belonged to the RP Museum and was a replica. Neat car.

Thanks warbird.
Some of these cars I shot really early. And the class coordinator had not placed all the placards yet. Of course the smart thing to do would have been to go back and photograph the placards. Btu was I that smart? Um, No.
