In the past I have not been a fan of a lot of things NASCAR has done and when I heard about the rule changes this year and putting the drivers back in charge I figured it was the same ol bs(bull stompings lol) and everything would be the same. Saturday night before the 500 I watched the 79 Daytona 500 on ESPN CLASSIC and when I watched Sundays race it was very similar. When the 43. 48 and the 2 car got out front and pulled away from the field I was amazed how much throttle response and ability to drive away from other cars was very similar. To make a long story short I thought it was a pretty good race. The rule changes seemed to make it better. Besides the track coming apart which is nobody's fault I felt like at the end it was worth watching unlike the debacle at Talladega last year. The best cars were able to pass and come to the front. That's all you can ask for, so I thought it was the best 500 i quite a while. The RPM cars were good even though the finishes were not. Just need a little more work but overall good race.

Here's my thought. How'd you like to have been the guy racing out to Lowe's to get something to patch the speedway pothole! Now THAT'S pressure! I don't get overly excited about restrictor plate race results. It's great to finish well, but as long as you hang on the lead lap, you've got just as good a chance to win as to finish 28th, so whatever. It's fun while it lasts. 1 down, 35 to go.

my thought is it was great to see the 43 leading and looking strong, to actually feel like we had a realistic chance again

I also thought it was the best Daytona in a long time. My favorite part was seeing the 43 , 48 and 2 pulling away like that. Seeing the 43 actually racy was priceless. This is going to be a good year, my friends.

Having the 43 up front brings feelings that cannot be described
