1966 - Richard finishes a less than memorable 25th in the Motor Trend 500 at Riverside. Some video. Despite a poor performance, Richard gets a mention in the video. Also, Bobby Allison has a wrong-way "hat trick" and at about the 1:00 mark you'll see another #00 struggling on the track - beating Buckshot Jones by about 35 years.

Richard eventually did figure out RIverside and got pretty good at it with several wins. That is one of the best tracks Nascar ever ran in my opinion.
Sonoma and the Glen do not campare at all.

Boy those dust clouds bring back a lot of memories. I got used to one thing quick there. You never, and I mean never took a lap for granted. If you're guy was runnin good when he came by you could only hope he would be close to the same spot the next lap. If they would have kept a record on spin outs there it would have been phenomenal. Quite often that place was a dust bowl or a mud bog. Most often a dust bowl though. Traction on that track was a premium. Even tire tests out there weren't absolute bordum. I've seen times when drivers doing tire test would get a real surprise when they came over a hill and another car had spun and thrown dirt on the track. uh huh right in front of another turn. I would have never believed that it and Ontario would be plowed under and sold. All houses now. Expensive ones too boot but hey that's Ca. pb
