And again here is another pic that has been seen on the internet millions of times but ...that's right, found it in a large format. A great shot of David Pearson hammering a straightaway in the Wood's 1974 Fastback Mercury. The cars of this era were as distinctive as any in Nascar's history and you just do not see production automobiles like this on the road today.

Great picture Ric. I must admit I was a Pearson fan until he parted with the WB. I ask for Petty forgivness. I listened, yes listened to my first race in I believe 1975, it was the Southern 500 on Memorial day and David won. love the red and white Merc.

I also liked David a lot! In the early days he was one of ours in the Mopars, then went Ford if I remember right. Now we are in Fords and can surely claim all of his career!

Purolator had offices a a manufacturing plant in my old home town of Rahway NJ.
They had a street version of that car in that paint job, that was always running around town.
It was always cool to come around the corner and see that coming at you!

I bet that was fun. Kind of like the Indy 500 Pace Cars that used to be everywhere!

Funny you should mention that Tom.
Well...one of the young ladies in my high school graduating class had a 69 Camaro Indy 500 pace car (the white/orange). Within a year of our graduating the car was basically trashed. So sad.
But I still live those days because now, there are several in my current "home town".
A good friend has a '67 Camaro (the white/blue Indy 500 car), an 83 Indy 500 pace car, an official parade car from the Brickyard 400 a few years back, and an event car from this year's Brickyard 400. Yes, he's a Chevy guy.

He is very into it. And frankly, the contents of hsi garage have appreciated more in the last few years than any of my "traditional" investments! He owns this site: www.indypacecars.com/It's a fun one to wander around.

I wanted to buy a 1982 Camaro pace car, but the money was too much, so I settled for a very nice silver sport coupe. Even with the V6 that car moved fast. I still had it when I met my wife-to-be, and she wanted to ride in that car very much. Unfortunately by the time we started dating, I had traded it for a Bronco (bad move). She has never let me forget that. The Camaro was my second favorite car, right after my '57 Bel Air.
