Love that car. Still have 1/24th scale Petty Superbird that I built when I was 12. Building the Superbird at Level CrossI wonder how often Jimmie J is in the shop with a pair of tin snips?

Sure he does. It's those scissor looking things he saw the body guys using once when he walked through the shop.

Hey now, JJ is sponsored by Kobalt tools, so he must know what tin snips are. Of course I own a pair and can't work them to save my life....along with all my other tools.

Good point there maj. He does do those commercials. Or is that a stunt man? You can have the thread back now Rick! To apologize for the hijack, here is the 1970 Superbird at Riverside. I would have thought they'd run the Satellite, thinking the 'Bird would have no great aero advantage on a road course.

Just noticed you can see Pete Hamilton's #40 Petty Superbird through Richard's window in the first picture. Since Pete won Daytona and Talledega for Petty enterprises in 1970, here's a better shot of Pete at speed. Interesting note, they always seemed to run a different front air dam on Richard's and Pete's cars. Not sure if that was driver preference or the team simply trying something different on the two cars.

Riverside's straight was long enough to draft. The cars would reach 180mph, plenty quick enough to bring the Bird.
If Nascar had any sense they would build a Road Course that has some of Riverside's charecteristics.
Nices shots Paul. I have not seen any of thos pics untill now.

Thanks Rick. There's more coming!
I didn't realize they hit speeds like that at Riverside.
