Well now that the 43 car is out of contention ......ahem.... sadly that happened on lap 200 of the Daytona 500 who's it gonna be.
Unless they really stub their toe I can't see it being no one but Treux Jr. Between now and then anything can happen of course....but they just have a Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon thing going on.
True enough those last five races get kinda rough I just feel like Truex can smell championship unless they just flat out lose the Mojo. You can't count out ole Kyle Busch though. If he gets on a roll he's one of the few I feel that could make some noise.
Where in the world is all the equipment going to go with RPM moving out of that facility does he own it. If Richard doesn't partner up with another team I wonder how much of it was his. Are we talking Chevy, Dodge what the hey. This is not the good old days when you could just about work out of a large oversize garage.
I just wonder if Richard is ready to maybe stay home. His name still attracts a lot of people though. But his equipment hasn't been competitive in over 25 years that does not attract big money.
Hoping for the best it will be interesting this go around for sure.

IMHO they will be a one car team with Bubba Wallace driving and running mid pack just as they are now. I don't see any difference, same car, just a different driver. Of course I hope that I am way off base and it all turns out for the good. Not putting any money on it though..

I'm frustrated beyond words at the troubles this team has seen, and in some cases, brought on itself.
Example A: A Colorado-based furniture store is on the cusp of winning a Cup. I would say if that happens, it shoots holes in all the conventional wisdom about having to be near Charlotte, or have 40 years in the racing business, or hire the best, brightest and most expensive engineers, but the truth is those holes have already been shot whether the 78 wins the title or not.
Example B: Kasey Kahne is about to drive for Leavine Family Racing. Don't tell me Richard doesn't have the resources to pull together a deal that at least equals that one. I'm not saying he goes out and competes for Kahne's signature, just that when teams like Leavine are pulling in drivers like Kahne, you have to wonder.
We're not privy to how Richard runs his business but from the outside trying to peek in, it seems like Richard runs the race team as lean as he can possibly run it, and/or Medallion runs it that cheap and forces Richard to go along with it. I have a hard time believing Richard doesn't have significant assets, and if he does, then he has to make a choice whether to continue to be ultra-conservative with his money, or compete. He can't do both. Speed costs money, and apparently we don't want to go that fast.
I made a lot of these same statements back when we were PE and Kyle was still in the 45. It just seems like Richard is stuck in "that ain't how we did it back then" and as a result, we won't do the things we need to do in order to be competitive. With Earnhardt leaving the sport and Gordon already gone, there is certainly no one to compete with Richard in the name-recognition department. Not the Busches, not Jimmy Johnson, no one. But he won't or can't leverage it. It's doubly frustrating knowing how little time he's actually got left.
