Heard they asked Edwards

They said on Racehub that RPM asked Carl Edwards to fill in thru Sonoma. Unfortunately he said he couldn't, don't know if that was because he's still under contract with Gibbs or other engagements. That's a bummer tho', if Aric has to be out for a bit and they do have to get a fill in, he sure would have been a heck of a pick. I like where their heads at with trying to find a good replacement, instead of just picking a so-so driver. Regan Smith I think would be another good choice, or I've heard Greg Biffle's name being thrown around. With them reaching out to Carl Edwards, it tells me they are looking for someone to really run the car, and not just be running to show Smithfield on the track, so I hope they don't resort back to a Casey Mears or somebody like that. With them asking Carl to fill in thru Sonoma, that race is on June 25th I believe, so it seems Aric is shooting to be back before Daytona in July. Who knows, another good idea would be if he is gonna miss Sonoma, would be to contact Marcose, and get him a plane ticket for a one race weekend in Sonoma. Gotta make the best of the situation, and with them even asking Edwards, it looks like they're trying to.

I agree. No on someone like Casey Mears, but I think Regan Smith would be a really good choice. He always was a decent driver that knows how to manage his car and get the most out of it.

Article on Front stretch said that Greg Biffle also was asked and declined.

Probably the best choice they had. I think Regan would have been a much better choice for the 44 if they could have got him a few yeas ago. He usually doesn't tear up equipment if he has a decent car.
