Oh my goodness 3 more fast cars out of the race for sure has a chance of a top 10. No sarcasm intended Aric has a shot now maybe a top 5 with just a little racing luck. He may have used some of that up on these last two wrecks one started behind him the other right beside him. Come on Aric go for it.

Gotta give'em credit he didn't have a car but drove a very good race and managed to stay clean Woo Hoo. Had a little fortune to boot. Sure a great start for the year. I sure hope they can get him a better car the cars in front of him all had damage. He was VERY fortunate but was patient and it paid off.

Would like to know what is up with the horsepower, or did anyone here if it was handling?

Don if this doesn't wake someone up I don't know what will. The cars in front of him all had damage and they could still run Aric to the rear. Kurt was awe struck he couldn't believe it he commented as such that his car didn't have a straight panel on it.
Gotta five Aic credit on this one he used what the car and track gave him. He did do a little arm wrestling the last few laps he did have a shot at winning if there had been another tangle up front, It would have been nice if a couple up front really beat on each other just a little more and didn't bring out a caution.
4th place with that car was a helluva ride.
I hope someone finds something before next week I don't think he will be that fortunate at Atlanta. You definitely have to have power and handling there if not it will be old lap down by first caution routine.
Rejoice tonight Aric great ride looked like the pit crew had a good day too.

I thought it was a good run, he got up there and even worked his way to the lead. I think he had the hp when he needed it, I just think he laid back for most of the race avoiding what he thought would happen. Normally listening to him on the scanner that's always what he does, except for July of 2014 when he won, that day he stayed up front all day. Yesterday Nascar raceview didn't have their stuff working right and the 43 scanner had Elliot Sadler on it all day, so I can tell you what happened with him but unfortunately I don't know when it comes to Aric if he was happy or not with the horsepower. I know in final practice he had said he wished they could find a little more speed. But when he worked his way to the lead that one time he looked pretty stout, and if it hadn't been for Chase Elliott driving like a bull in a china shop I believe he could have kept it or at least not have fallen back like he did, but he almost wrecked him. All in all a great day and first time the 43 has finished in the top 5 in the Daytona 500 since Richard in 1987. And that's pretty cool.

Don't put the GENIE back in the bottle leave him out for a while. I'll ship up a box of rabbit feet if that would help, maybe with some eye of newt, scrape of lizard tongue, and a frog eyelash. Mama said don't cross your eyes they may stay that way.
Just trying to have some fun, but dang it we're way overdue for some racing luck.
I would have loved to have seen if Richard was resetting his hat when Aric got out front.
I don't think Aric was playing around when he got shoveled back several times. He got boxed in for a bunch of laps. I don't think he had the car or he would have tried to hold the lead I honestly feel he felt there just wasn't enough car but he knew if he didn't wreck he would have a good finish. Not a dang thing wrong with that.

I agree with Dan's comment that there's nothing wrong with the way Aric drove the race and managed his car. And there's nothing wrong with finally getting a bit of racing luck. He avoided getting caught up in three major incidents!
But there must be something wrong with the car itself. I'm not one of those guys that buys into the great Rousch conspiracy. I trust that everybody is getting the equivalent Ford engines. So that leaves the car.
Other than coming off the truck fast (2nd in the first practice); the rest of the weekend was about the same as last year. Aric quickly faded from his 13th starting position to run in the low twenties (right about where he was last year). The 43 moved up mostly because of attrition.
To me that speaks to the ability to adjust the car at the track. We came off the truck fast; but other teams made the changes necessary to improve. The 43 team didn't.
I think it's curious that we are already two days past the race, and RPM has not put up their usual "race report" on richardpettymotorsports.com. Nothing on either RPM or Aric's Facebook pages either.
On the bright side, there's always the next race! And yes, RPM has a fourth place finish already. ;-)

Hi Paul great to have a few people posting. You're right I just couldn't get over coming off the truck fast and falling on their face in qualifying ( by a lot ).
You can't be great every race, but if you are a quality team you should be able to get a contender several times a year. RPM isn't coming close.
They can talk about how tough it is to win rightly so........ but somebody is winning 1 or more of 36 races it's no different for them also plus there are at least 15 cars every week that are a CONTENDER to win. Just flat out fact RPM isn't.
They have made a number of changes in the RPM camp. Doesn't seem like they have gained much. Hopefully a great deal of effort went into the track pit crew. That alone may keep them in top 20.
It just continues to amaze me that someone just doesn't have enough and bust his azz and who ever else it takes to get this car right for a few races. I just couldn't stand being a ALSO RAN at this level ..... it would just kill me to spend the money they do and every race know that the front runners don't even consider you a threat even when half the competition wrecks out.
Go RPM lets rock at Atlanta, there isn't no messing around there you have the power and handling or you don't.

Nothing on either RPM or Aric's Facebook pages either. I wrote that earlier this week. It's now Thursday morning, and nothing ever appeared. RPM released their Atlanta preview yesterday, on Facebook and the company web site. So I guess we'll never hear what Aric or Drew Bliickensderfer had to say about the Daytona 500. That's just weird.
