There was a great segment on the prerace show sunday for a change, I dont usually watch to much of it but I did sunday, it was about VJG starting in Kansas and about how the whole thing started. Interviewed Kyle and Pattie Petty and showed some bits on Adam. It was real touching. Its ashame that bright light doesnt shine anymore but he left his mark. Kyle said they lost a son but they gained 10,000 kids. It was hard to hold back the tears. Great segment

Judy and I watched it and Judy was in tears the whole time. What we all lost was nothing near what Patty and Kyle and Richard and Linda lost of course, but it was almost like Nascar died for me that day. It took a long time to care again. Had he lived Petty Enterprises would not only still be alive but well and healthy.

I've read a lot of articles written about Adam's accident and the aftermath and I don't think the family has ever really bounced back completely from the accident. I think it was difficult on Patty and Kyle because they weren't there. I'm not sure where Patty was but Kyle was in England with Gummy at the World Horse shows. He got the call at the hotel the night before he and Gummy came home but he didn't tell Gummy until they were back in the US and headed home in the company plane. That had to have been a very, very difficult few hours for Kyle. And Patty without Kyle at home when she got the news....I can't even imagine it. I also found it interesting that even with all those terrible events unfolding, Kyle has the presence of mind to have the car brought back to NC and buried where no one would find it so it wouldn't be come any sort of shrine to Adam. It had to just have been an awful, awful time for them.
