It sounds like its just Foriegn franchising rights.........Gillette is selling them the rights to pursue these efforts in foriegn countries.
The Famous Petty hat and glasses will be on millions of billboards through out the Middle East...
Bet Boston Ventures is fuming over this one.............it's the Richard Petty in RPM and the Driving experience that is worth something over there..........if they just had some patience or Cahonies............it could have been there deal........did you notice
500+ million that is a 500% return on Gillette's investment it would have been 1600% on BV's investment LOLOLOLOLOLOL

To me this just shows how much RP is just a spokesman for RPM. He would never in a million years willfully have his name attached to this. This makes me sick to me stomach. In a time like this you do not want your childhood hero being aligned with a SAudi Prince. No matter how much money he has. Altman43

This is truly pathetic,we were pissed Toyota was coming into our sport and now the Arabs??? Whatever,it appears Kyle was smart to run from what he saw happening? Did Richard sell his soul to the Devil??? I hope not!! Folks let's think about it before we start makin excuses for RP. I love him, just hope he did not let Big Buisness get the better of him!! Please dont hate on me! By the way,Do not crush me on the "did he sell his soul to the Devil"comment, just an expression!! Good night have some Petty Blue Kool-Aid to finish!

Everything seems to be globalizing. Now it appears to have hit our NASCAR that we have enjoyed for lo these many years. We have leaders in place who are encouraging even more globalization and government control. NASCAR is not seen by them as an environmentally responsible activity. We should enjoy it while it is allowed to exist. I think that if our current ruling party remains in power for another term, there may not be many more chances for us to elect our national leader. We will be ruled by international leaders. Boy I hope I'm wrong, but I have been a student of history all my life, and this sure looks like the begining of the end for our great democracy (Republic). God bless the United States of America.

Putting aside personal issues with the Arab world. Stop and think about what is being presented.
Gillette is Exporting a product(NASCAR and Richard Petty) to an outside country. If he was selling plastic chairs no one would be concerned.
The US is experiencing an export deficit. We are importing billions from the Arab world(oil), why should we not try and export our sports and entertainment products to them.
What I ask you is bad or harmful in promoting RP overseas.....is it only acceptable that US fans can like RP? Is it only acceptable that US fans purchase RP merchandise?
We pay them for a Raw material (oil) and we export an intangible product (entertainment licensing and/or rights) on any balance sheet in business that is a WIN WIN WIN WIN.
Tom, give the prince a call and see what you can get for establishing a RP forum in Arabic, LOL

LOL
I do agree. I don't see how it would really be bad. If we really want to change ideas and perceptions in thier world we need to show them the parts of our own that are good and happy. Many of them have only seen our country represented by tanks and bombers. A nice pretty 43 and a glass of Petty Blue might just save the world. But seriously, we need to show them more than the military. This is a good chance. And who better for a Nascar rep than the King himself. Heck, he is better than a Prince!

We are all going on such sparse info, one press release and a Twitter comment. But I do agree with Songsmith and donmoos.
As I wrote earlier, this really looks like an investment in Gillette's holding company so to speak, with the objective of bringing Gillette product to new markets. I see no direct involvement in the RPM RACE TEAM. I suspect there will be involvement with the RP driving experience or something like it, to the extent that the new partners need to be involved to set that operation up in Saudi Arabia and other countries. I see a lot of positives there.
I'm confused by one thing. I thought when the Petty-Gillette merger occurred the Richard Petty Driving Experience stayed with Boston Ventures. Am I remembering that wrong?
And one other thing...I am convinced that ProBoards technology is able to present banner ads in the context of the forum thread.
When I am in a racing thread, I see stock car racing school ads, Harley Davidson ads, things like that.
When I am in this thread I see the Arab marriage ads, right now there is a clothing ad for a web site called alibaba.com, I recall seeing some other Arab match-making service. Technology is a a scary thing folks!
